Honoring our Past, Celebrating our Present, and Envisioning our Future in Downtown Covington, TN

Bicentennial Gala

Step into an evening of elegance and community pride as we honor 200 years of Covington’s rich history. The Bicentennial Gala will bring together neighbors, friends, and supporters for a night of celebration in the heart of our beloved downtown. Guests will enjoy delectable dishes from Rick Laxton Catering, a silent auction, live entertainment by the Bruce Kee Band, and special tributes that reflect upon our storied past, applaud the vitality of our present, and look to the bright future that lies ahead.

From the charm of our historic architecture to the thriving businesses and cultural spirit that define us today, this milestone event will be a heartfelt tribute to the resilience, growth, and unity of Covington. Join us as we toast to two centuries of history—and to the next chapter yet to be written.

Multiple businesses to be honored for long time service to Covington!

Five local businesses will be recognized for serving the residents of Covington for 100 years or more. Founded in 1886, The Leader is the oldest business still operating today, in Covington. Bringing news to the residents of Covington and Tipton County, this locally owned and operated newspaper has been a pivotal business to our community since it's inception.  Next, Covington Granite has been serving Covington since 1890. This family-owned company specializes in family memorials, pet stones, repairs, and cleaning. Moreover, we have a second business that began in 1890 and will be honored during the Bicentennial Gala. Maley-Yarbrough Funeral Home has served Covington and Tipton County with the utmost sympathy and understanding to those suffering the loss of a loved one. In addition, Naifeh's Foods has been serving Covington since 1910. Through 5 generations, the Naifeh family has been dedicated to customer service and our community. Finally, Barlow Funeral Home will be honored on this once in a lifetime evening. Celebrating their 100th business anniversary just this month, Barlow is not only one of our oldest multi-generational businesses, it is also our oldest minority owned and operated business in Covington.

Besides our oldest businesses, Covington Main Street plans to honor our oldest operating industry, Charms Company. We would be remiss if we left out agriculture and did not honor one of our oldest agriculture families spanning over 5 generations and 250 years of agriculture in Covington, the Turner family!

We are so blessed to have such dedicated businesses in our community who strive to serve the public with outstanding service and a personal touch.

Four Living Mayors to be honored at gala.

Former Mayor Russell Bailey, former Mayor David Gordon, former Mayor Justin Hanson, and current Mayor Jan Hensley will be recognized and honored for their dedicated service during the last four decades as elected government officials in Covington.

Cocktail Attire Preferred

The attire for the evening will be cocktail attire. So men, dust off your suits and elaborate ties, and women, break out the sequins and dancing shoes! For one night this year, we plan to celebrate in high style and an abundance of elegance with 250 of our closest friends and neighbors!
